Preparing For An Interview
Dress the Part
When you know
the day of your interview, plan ahead to ensure that the
clothes you will be wearing will be clean
and wrinkle-free. Choose an outfit that is appropriate for
the job you are applying for. If you will be working in an
office, dress conservatively. A dark suit for a man. Women
should wear soft tones, but try to avoid mini skirts and tops
that show off too much.
You could dress more casually if the
job would involve working outdoors or in some sort of creative
artistic environment. But it is best to avoid wearing jeans,
over or under sized clothing, and for women too much make-up.
You don't want to create the wrong impression.
Always wear 'normal' shoes. Avoid
wearing trainers or sandals, even in very hot
weather.
Your appearance needs to be smart,
neutral and businesslike.
Get Organized
Plan ahead for
your interview. Compile a checklist. Ensure that you will have
everything ready the night before.
It is a good idea to take an
extra copy of your resume to interview with you, and printed
details of referees - current employer and several personal
referees - just in case you get a job offer at the interview
and they ask for references.
You should also take a note pad
with you in case it is prudent to take notes during the
interview, but only note the important things you need to
remember.
Take a business card if you have
them. It makes for easy contact later, shows
your professional side, and may prompt the employer
to remember your name.

Pre Interview
Tips
-
Before
commencing a job search in your
chosen field, do your background
research to understand fully what
the career entails, as well as
which jobs would best suit your
personality and
interests.
-
To be
successful at finding work in your
chosen field, you must dedicate as
much time to your job search as you
would to a full-time
job.
-
Before
attending your next job interview,
get a friend to help you “role
play” a Question and Answer
session. This helps you to work out
any pre-interview nervousness as
well as to develop some great
answers for use in the actual
interview.
