Preparing for the Interview

When you are given a date for your interview you will need to prepare for it.  The better prepared you are, the less chance that you will make a mistake. You need to prepare yourself both emotionally and intellectually for a job interview. Creating a good impression at interview is down to how much you put into preparing yourself for it.

Office

Think of yourself as a salesman with you as the product. Without going 'over the top' you must sell yourself to your prospective employer. You want to market yourself in the most interesting way possible. You need to come across as knowledgeable, positive and friendly, to get the result you desire.

Do Your Research

However knowledgeable or experienced you are about the job type you are pursuing, it pays to do some research into the company you are applying to. If you know what the company is about and some of its achievements, you will be better placed to say why you feel you would be a worthwhile addition to their workforce.

Check out their website and note who the key people are; their names and job titles. Look at the products or services they provide and any announcements of forthcoming developments. Make a note of where they operate throughout the country and the world, and find out a little about the area in the vicinity of the address where your interview will be held, assuming it will be on company property and not in a hotel.

There may be some media files on the company. Read as many articles as you can about them, take in all the information you can.

It may be possible, although less straightforward, to obtain some information from the company itself, from its PR department, for example. Just get on the phone ask some general questions without saying you are a job applicant. You might just get lucky with some breaking news.
