Faxing Your Resume

If a faxed application is required, you will need a proper cover letter together with the resume. If you are using a fax machine other than your own, ensure that the contact information is included in your letter.

Walk-In Your Resume

If you are required to deliver your resume in person, be sure to dress as if you were attending an actual interview.

Companies often ask you to walk in with your resume if your new job will require you to work directly with customers. They request a walk in so they can see how you conduct yourself - your grooming, manners, basic courtesy - and sometimes they will give you a brief preliminary interview then and there, and invite you back for a formal interview at a later date. So it makes sense to act in a businesslike manner, and to allow enough time to stay for a brief chat if asked.

You don't usually need to include a cover letter with your resume when a walk in is asked for. Your appearance and demeanour will speak a thousand words as it were, so make sure you are on your best behaviour, smile and be polite to anyone you talk to.

Make a good first impression and you could be on your way to an interview.

Telephoning for an Interview

Companies don't often ask for telephoned job applications anymore. If the position you are interested in requires a good telephone manner - dealing with customers, for instance - they may require it, just to hear how you communicate with others and how your personality comes across. Always be polite with whomever you speak to and be prepared for any questions they may ask you.
