How To Return Your Resume

Mailing a Resume

Some companies prefer that you send your resume by mail, and it is advisable to include a cover letter. The cover letter simply refers to the position you are interested in, and gives a few details of your qualifications and skills. It is your introduction to your resume.

Your cover letter should always be addressed to an individual, not merely sent to Sir or Madam, or To whom it may concern, as this can suggest that you are not looking for a specific position, just for any old job that is going. It is sloppy and disrespectful to your potential employer.

Emailing Your Resume

Submitting a resume by email has become quite commonplace but only use it where it is given as an option.  Here are few tips on how to do it.

Send your resume as an attachment to your covering email.  The resume should be in Word document or PDF format as these are what most companies will accept.

Put your name in the subject line of the email and refer to the job being applied for.

For example: Jane Williams, application for clerical assistant - purchasing department. This enables the recruiter to quickly relate your application to the specific vacancy, and ensures that it will be read.

However, if the company requires a particular means of submitting your resume by email - no attachments, for example , in which case paste your resume details into the body of your email - then follow them absolutely or you risk your email not being read.
